Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
